Sacro Occipital Technique

One of the most popular chiropractic techniques world-wide; it was founded by Dr Major Bertrand Dejarnette D.C. in 1925. It is a comprehensive system of diagnosis and treatment that incorporates:

Cranial Manipulation

The cranium (skull) is made up principally of eight cranial bones joined together at the sutures which allow for cranial micromotion between these bones. Should these sutures become restricted and/or the cranial bones distorted there maybe pain over the concerned area and possible alteration in function of the local nervous system (including the brain) leading to:

Tension and/or migraine headaches
Facial pain
neuralgia
Dizziness
Fainting
Loss of balance and/or co-ordination
Glue ear
Blurred vision
Learning difficulties
Epilepsy etc

Furthermore, the temperomandibular joints (jaw) may also be affected, thus causing symptoms such as:

Clicking, locking and/or painful jaw joints
Earache
Poor bite
Grinding of teeth
Ear noises
Tinnitus
Hearing problems etc

Chiropractors and dentists will often work together in a technique called Chirodontics to effect a balanced bite and a stable jaw joint.

Visceral Manipulation

The viscera, or organs of the body (stomach, intestines, kidneys, lungs etc.) are required to move within the limits of their attachments. When they become restricted in this movement there maybe dysfunction of the related organs and possible symptoms such as:

Abdominal and flank pain/cramps
Indigestion and heartburn
Irritable bowel syndrome, including constipation and diarrhoea
Constricting chest pains mimicking heart conditions
Asthma, difficulty breathing
Constant colds and infections
Toxic headaches

Chiropractic manipulative reflex therapy (visceral manipulation) to the concerned organs can restore motion and, with nutritional support if necessary, relieve these symptoms and restore health to an optimal state.
